How to Finish Decorative Concrete Overlay

Posted on Decoration Ideas

Decorative Concrete Overlay – Finishing your decorative cement floor in an attractive way allows your floor to withstand traffic for years to come. Applying an acrylic finish to your decorative cement floor gives it a high gloss finish and keeps your new floor. Work with acrylic finishes in a well-ventilated area, as vapors can cause difficulty breathing when inhaled in large quantities.

Clean the cement floor thoroughly with oil and grease emulsifier. Rub the liquid down the floor with a stiff push broom. This liquid compound will remove all traces of oil and grease from the plant, which is an important step to create decorative concrete overlay. A surface that is not an oil free surface may compromise the adhesion of the acrylic finish. Rinse the floor thoroughly with clean water, ensuring that all the emulsifier is removed. Allow the floor to dry for 4 to 6 hours, or until there is no sign of moisture.

Apply a layer of clear acrylic concrete coating to the decorative cement floor using a short wicking roller. Do not roll over the same area more than twice; It is better to have more acrylic coating on the floor that needs to be moved to another area than to shake the coating too much. Frequent rolling creates bubbles in the coating, which are difficult to remove. Wait for the clear acrylic coating to dry for 2 to 3 hours before applying a second layer if desired. A single layer of coating is all that is required; Additional layers will make the floor of decorative concrete overlay shiny. Normal traffic can be resumed approximately 8 hours after applying the last layer.
